Dear Single Women on Valentine’s Day

Dear Single Women on Valentine’s Day,

Don’t be bitter. You’re single and lonely every day of the year so why does it matter today? I love love, I’m not ashamed of it. I love romantic comedies and romances and love stories in general. The cheesier and more cliched the better. It’s very mainstream to hate Valentine’s Day as a single woman. Granted we have been taught for centuries that we, as women, should never aspire to anything beyond being a wife and a mother. No matter what I do, apparently it means nothing unless I have someone to share it with. Well, I don’t. I might someday, just not today, and I’m not mad about it. I reject the idea that as a single woman on Valentine’s Day I have to be bitter and hate this day. I would advise you to do the same.

What are my plans for Valentine’s Day? Why, thanks so much for asking! I have a whole list of romantic comedies that I want to watch which I have been compiling for weeks. I have chocolate, I got the premade sugar cookie dough so I can have cookies. It’s going to be a great night. Unlike last year, I get to see my sister because she’s at college with me so we can hang out a little. She’s never single on Valentine’s Day but I don’t hold that against her. Every year I watch the movie Valentine’s Day because it’s an obvious choice and I feel like it’s the only time it’s appropriate to watch it.

It’s okay if you don’t like rom-coms or romances, it’s okay if the only movies you like are horror movies or action movies. You should do what you want, this day is supposed to celebrate love so do what you love. That’s my message, have fun.

Happy Valentine’s Day! There’s always someone out there who loves you.

With love,

A Woman Who Loves Valentine’s Day
