At the start of the 2010s, I was 10 years old and at the start of the 2020s, I am 20 years old. I genuinely can’t remember what happened in 2010 so I can’t really reflect back on it. Although I did grow up a lot and have all of my teen years in this decade it’s still a blur.
I have never made New Year’s Resolutions and I probably never will but I would like to have something to look back on in 2030. So I’m going to make my resolution for this year, the same thing that I wish for every time I blow out my birthday candles. And that is, to be happy. With that being said, here are some of the best things that I can remember happening to me in the 2010s (in no particular order):
- Went into my teen years (2012)
- I found my all-time favorite movie, 10 Things I Hate About You (2015)
- I found my all-time favorite book, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (2014)
- Found some of my all-time favorite authors which include: John Green, Sarah Dessen, Jenn Bennett, and Morgan Matson
- I binge-watched a tv show for the first time, it was Veronica Mars and I loved it (2014)
- Started making collages (2014)
- I started therapy and got diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety disorder and Depression (2015)
- Learned how to accept and cope with my anxiety (Ongoing)
- Went to Martinique twice (2015/2016)
- Graduated Middle School (2013)
- Started High School (2013)
- Graduated High School (2017)
- Started College (2017)
- Made 3 different friend groups (?-2013/2013-2017/2017-?) I might need to work on maintaining friendships
- Quit Ballet (2012) This might not seem like a positive thing but it did wonders for my mental health
- Was in a band (2014-2016) It was called Suddenly, I’m not a good singer but I had fun with my siblings.
- My sister graduated High School and started going to the same college as me (2019)
- I dyed my hair for the first time (2015)
- I got my first piercing (2017)
- Went into Young Women’s at church (2011)
- Stopped being a Mormon (Officially in 2017)
- Got a cell phone (2012)
- Started Instagram: @lovelyinlight (2014)
- Started this blog (2018)
- Started a Youtube Channel: addie2shoes (2019)
- Ended my teen years and started my 20s (2019)
- I’m still alive (Ongoing, I hope)
To be honest I’m not where I thought I’d be and if I’m being honest with myself, my younger self would be disappointed in me. I had planned to be a singer or a ballet dancer, as dumb as it sounds I wanted to have been in a relationship by now. During my past two friend groups, I would have told you that we’d be friends forever, but that would’ve required me to shut up most of the time so it’s all for the best. Right now I like where I am and I don’t know how to be any other way which is perfectly fine. Maybe I’ll look back and be proud, maybe I’ll be disappointed in myself. I believe that the most important things in life and in getting older are to learn and to be happy. I haven’t always been happy but I have always learned, especially in the past decade to become who I’m supposed to be. But we’ll see what happens now. Here’s to 2020, and the hope of a new year and a new decade to make our own! Cheers!
